Along with the phytochemicals, I've always wondered if part of the reason primarily coffee/tea drinkers don't develop diabetes is because they're not drinking as much soda. Most of us reaching for "something" in the morning as a wake me up and it seems like (us) soda drinkers start off with HFC's or sugar sub chemicals and just drive it home all day long. A lot of coffee/tea drinkers I know don't do that. They drink soda more as a treat but reach for more coffee/tea if they're need a "lift" so they're not consuming the quantity of HFC's.
